Flat light and a covered sky today, with a proper ripple driven from the SSE with the barometer flat. Fish at McCormick Lake should hold close to inflow corners and shaded margins. The evening should out-fish the rest of the day. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones.

McCormick Lake is a Grey County water, in Ontario. The surface lies 353 metres up. It runs to roughly 12 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. There is roughly 1.4 km of shoreline here, which is a short walk end to end. Markdale sits 18 km from the bank. Further out sit Hanover (18 km) and Walkerton (27 km). It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
Depth is not on record here, which means reading the ground instead. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Reported across Grey County: Chinook salmon, rainbow trout and brook trout. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. Read McCormick Lake before you fish it and the day goes better.
Long-term averages put July at about 19°C and January near -8°C. Seasons are distinct, and each one fishes differently. Count the season from break-up, usually mid April. From about mid April to around mid December, expect open water on the long-run figures. Early summer and early autumn carry the open-water season. McCormick Lake fishes to that pattern most years.
Public data does not answer the access question here. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. There is no recorded infrastructure here; expect to find your own way in. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. Should this one be busy, Tobermory Lake is 1.7 km off. Check the position on McCormick Lake before loading the car.
