Solid cloud cover today, with next to no ripple and pressure going nowhere. Maund Lake should fish best around the weed line and any gaps in it today. The forecast is against you; the morning is the least bad option. Treat it as a scouting trip with a rod in hand. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

The Cochrane District entry here is Maund Lake, in Ontario. This is taiga ground. It measures about 38 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. Bank access stretches around 2.6 km in total. For supplies, Smooth Rock Falls is 74 km out. After that come Cochrane at 91 km and Kapuskasing at 105 km. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
We hold no depth figure for this one. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Cochrane District records list northern pike, yellow perch and white sucker among the fish reported. The county figures include rivers and lakes alike. The near bank of Maund Lake is often the one people ignore.
Expect July near 16°C and January near -20°C on the long-run figures. This far north the hard season runs and runs. The lid usually goes in early May, which opens the strongest weeks of the year. In an average year the thaw lands around early May and the freeze near mid November. Spring is short and heavy here; autumn is longer and steadier. On Maund Lake that shapes the whole year.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Mapping records no facilities at all near this water. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Gates get locked out of season on water like this. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Failing this one, try Haultain Lake, 5.5 km away. Ask locally about Maund Lake if anything is unclear.
