Wind working the surface all day, with a persistent wind from the WSW with the glass holding level. The productive water at Mary Lake will be around inflow corners and shaded margins. One clear peak today: the evening. Cover water early, then settle where the signs are. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Mary Lake falls in Grey County, part of Ontario. It sits in mixed forest. Surface area is around 13 hectares, which gives you real water without needing a boat. About 2.0 km of bank, so nothing stays unexplored for long. It lies lower than most water we list in Ontario. Wiarton lies 11 km from the water. The big place round here is Barrie, 112 km distant. The boundary is near enough that local access rules are worth double-checking.
Depth is not on record here, which means reading the ground instead. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Survey and observation records for Grey County include Chinook salmon, rainbow trout, brook trout and white sucker. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. Mary Lake fishes better once you know its edges.
Climate normals give 19°C for July and -7°C for January. Winter shuts things down for a spell, then spring reopens them fast. Ice fishing carries the winter, and the water opens about mid April. Average temperatures cross freezing around mid April in spring and again near mid December in autumn. Early summer and early autumn carry the open-water season. Mary Lake fishes to that pattern most years.
Our records carry no access rule either way. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Public mapping records no formal access here, so plan for a walk and soft ground. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. Gowan Lake, 0.9 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Check the position at Mary Lake before loading the car.
