Uneven cloud over the water after dark, with a steady NW wind and no real change in pressure. Fish at Martinson Lake should hold close to points where shallow meets deep. The morning should out-fish the rest of the day. Trust the forecast and stay out through the window. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Out in Nipissing District, Ontario, sits Martinson Lake. The country here is pine and birch. It runs to roughly 22 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. Shoreline comes to about 2.8 km, small enough to learn in a day. It is low-lying compared with other Ontario water we list. Markstay-Warren lies 21 km from the water. West Nipissing is 24 km away, with Sturgeon Falls at 25 km. The county edge is within a short distance of the bank.
Depth remains unrecorded, so treat the first session as a survey. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Reported across Nipissing District: smallmouth bass, cisco, yellow perch and pumpkinseed. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. On Martinson Lake a short move beats a long cast.
Average temperature peaks around 18°C in July and bottoms out near -13°C in January. The year runs cold to warm and back, with clear transitions. The freeze runs deep into the year, with break-up near late April. The lid tends to go about late April and return around late November. The first weeks of open water and the last are the ones to plan for. On Martinson Lake the same rules apply, with local timing.
Our records carry no access rule either way. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. The map shows no ramp or car park nearby, so this is a walk-in water. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Deer Lake, 2.4 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Nothing here settles the position at Martinson Lake for certain.
