No cloud to trap the day's warmth tonight, with a consistent blow out of the WNW and pressure going nowhere. Most of the action on Marsh Lake should come off the calm side of the wind. Numbers are low everywhere; the night is the pick of them. Scale down and fish slowly. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Marsh Lake is a Kenora District water, Ontario side. It sits at 361 metres above sea level. At 2.85 sq km this is proper open water rather than a pond. The shoreline runs about 9.8 km, so it pays to pick a stretch and stay with it. Start from Sioux Lookout, 41 km down the road. The nearest city of size is Thunder Bay, 312 km away. This one is safely inside the county line.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Reported across Kenora District: northern pike, longnose sucker, white sucker and johnny darter. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. On Marsh Lake the first feature you find is usually worth a session.
Seasonal averages run from -18°C in January up to 18°C in July. Spring and autumn carry the fishing; summer and winter test it. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from late April. The open-water window runs from around late April to about mid November in an average year. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. Marsh Lake fishes to that pattern most years.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. No made access is recorded, so a short walk in is the likely arrangement. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. For a change of water, Clace Lake is 3.9 km distant. None of that is settled for Marsh Lake in what we hold.
