Cloud coming and going through the night, with a light NW breeze and steady pressure. Fish at Marr Lake should hold close to bays that hold the day's warmth. The evening should out-fish the rest of the day. Take the steady approach over the searching one. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Marr Lake belongs to Thunder Bay District, Ontario. Beyond the shoreline you have northern bush. This is sizeable water at about 1.69 sq km, and a boat opens up most of it. Shoreline length is close to 12 km, and each section fishes a little differently. On our Thunder Bay District list it sits near the top for size. The nearest town is Longlac, 78 km away. Then Geraldton, 86 km, and Greenstone, 91 km. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
Depth remains unrecorded, so treat the first session as a survey. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Across Thunder Bay District, recorded fish include cisco, blackfin cisco, rainbow smelt, bloater and shortjaw cisco. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. At Marr Lake light and wind decide more than tackle does.
The seasonal spread runs -20°C to 16°C. The fishing year opens late and shuts early. Winter locks it down, and early May brings it back. Break-up near early May, freeze-up near mid November: that is the shape of an average year. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. At Marr Lake the season follows that pattern closely.
Whether you may fish here is not something records settle. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. We find no slipway, car park or made path within a short radius, so treat access as rough. One rod, a handful of hooks and floats, and a few small lures are enough for this water. Check locally before you travel, because a wasted drive is a long one. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. Should this one be busy, Trident Lake is 3.1 km off. The position on Marr Lake is worth confirming on the day.
