Partly cloudy skies today, with a decent NW wind working the banks with a settled glass. Most of the action on Marlow Lake should come off reed fringes and open pockets. Save your energy for the morning. Stay mobile and follow the activity. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Ontario holds Marlow Lake, in Sudbury. Beyond the shoreline you have lake country bush. About 3 hectares of surface, which puts the far bank inside easy sight. Most waters listed here for Sudbury are larger. Markstay-Warren at 38 km is the nearest place to stop. Capreol lies 41 km off, Valley East another 49 km. This one is safely inside the county line.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Fish documented in Sudbury include smallmouth bass, northern pike, yellow perch, Iowa darter and walleye. County records show the wider picture rather than this one place. Work Marlow Lake in sections rather than trying to cover it.
Climate normals give 18°C for July and -14°C for January. Winter shuts the surface down for months. The lid usually sets by midwinter and gives way around late April. Break-up near late April, freeze-up near late November: that is the shape of an average year. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. That is the shape of the year on Marlow Lake.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. Mapping shows no built access close by; expect to walk in from wherever you can leave the car. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Rules for this water may differ from the county norm. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. If the gate is shut, Kelly Lake at 3.1 km is the nearest alternative. Nothing here settles the position at Marlow Lake for certain.
