A rough, wind-driven day, with a busy NW wind on the open water and no real change in pressure. The productive water at Marina Lake will be around the margins and the shelf beyond them. The morning carries the best of the day. A careful, quiet approach will out-fish a busy one. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Marina Lake sits within Timiskaming District in Ontario. The country round it is rolling bush from end to end. With some 38 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. There is roughly 3.0 km of shoreline here, which is a short walk end to end. Start from Temiskaming Shores, 72 km down the road. For a city, Greater Sudbury is 104 km off. One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. County-wide records name brook trout, northern pike, yellow perch and Iowa darter. Read it as a county summary, not a water-by-water list. Anyone new to Marina Lake should walk it once before setting up.
Climate normals give 17°C for July and -16°C for January. Winter shuts the surface down for months. Count the season from break-up, usually early May. Ice clears near early May and comes back about mid November in a typical year. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. At Marina Lake the season follows that pattern closely.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Mapping records no facilities at all near this water. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. If the gate is shut, Smoothwater Lake at 1.5 km is the nearest alternative. The position on Marina Lake is worth confirming on the day.
