Bright moon and an empty sky tonight, with hardly a ripple anywhere and pressure sitting still. On Maria Lake, work inflow corners and shaded margins first. The night should out-fish the rest of the day. Take the steady approach over the searching one. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Night
The Rainy River District end of Ontario holds Maria Lake. Beyond the shoreline you have pine and birch. At some 1.15 sq km it is far too large to cover on foot in a day. You are looking at roughly 10 km of shoreline, with plenty of water between access points. Atikokan sits 18 km from the bank. Beyond it, Ely at 81 km and Ignace at 91 km. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
Depth went unrecorded, which puts the reading back on you. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Across Rainy River District, recorded fish include northern pike, smallmouth bass and yellow perch. County data is a starting point rather than a guarantee. At Maria Lake the first feature you find is worth twenty minutes.
On the long-term average, July reads 18°C and January reads -17°C. Winter shuts things down for a spell, then spring reopens them fast. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from late April. Expect the water usable from around late April until roughly mid November. Early summer and early autumn carry the open-water season. It holds true on Maria Lake more years than not.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. You can camp about 390 m away, going by the mapping. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Rules for this water may differ from the county norm. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. North Quinn Lake, 2.7 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Where Maria Lake is concerned, a local answer beats a written one.
