Heavy overcast holding through the day, with a faint WNW drift and steady pressure. Give points where shallow meets deep the first hour at Mang Lake. The productive run goes the day. Start on the obvious water and expand from there. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Mang Lake is a Kenora District water, in Ontario. It sits at 398 metres above sea level. About 1.62 sq km, so local knowledge or a boat saves a lot of walking. At about 14 km of edge, most people work one arm at a time. Dryden sits 64 km from the bank. Beyond it, Fort Frances at 76 km and International Falls at 78 km. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
Depth remains unrecorded, so treat the first session as a survey. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Reported across Kenora District: northern pike, longnose sucker and white sucker. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. At Mang Lake the water rewards a slow, careful approach.
Seasonal averages run from -17°C in January up to 18°C in July. The freeze arrives properly here and holds. Ice is part of the season here, ending near late April. Averages suggest open water from about late April through to roughly mid November. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. At Mang Lake the season follows that pattern closely.
Public sources are silent on who controls the bank. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Nothing is listed nearby for parking or launching a boat. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. For a change of water, Kukukahu Lake is 2 km distant. Check the position on Mang Lake before loading the car.
