A closed sky with even light today, with calm air over the water and the barometer holding steady. On Mamamia Lake, work points where shallow meets deep first. Little to get excited about, though the night holds a sliver of promise. Lower the pace and stay patient. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Night
Look for Mamamia Lake in the Thunder Bay District part of Ontario. The ground round it is boreal forest. Roughly 20 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. The bank runs about 2.1 km all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. Longlac sits 28 km from the bank. Geraldton is 50 km and Manitouwadge 61 km. No border sits close enough to matter.
The records we hold are silent on depth, so plan to find it yourself. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Survey and observation records for Thunder Bay District include cisco, blackfin cisco, rainbow smelt, bloater and shortjaw cisco. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. Fish Mamamia Lake where the bottom changes rather than where it looks deep.
Typical July readings run about 16°C; by January the average is down near -18°C. The ice season is long here and the open one short. Ice-out usually falls in early May, and the weeks after it fish hardest. Break-up sits around early May on average, with the water closing again about mid November. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. That shapes the year on Mamamia Lake.
The access position is unclear from public sources. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Nothing is listed nearby for parking or launching a boat. One rod, a handful of hooks and floats, and a few small lures are enough for this water. Where the road in crosses private land, ask first. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. For a change of water, Bambino Lake is 1.8 km distant. For Mamamia Lake, the notice at the access point is the final word.
