Soft grey light all day today, with light air out of the W with the glass holding level. The fish at Mack Lake are likely to sit near reed fringes and open pockets. A slow day overall; the night is the best of a quiet lot. Scale down and fish slowly. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Algoma, Ontario, is where Mack Lake sits. It stands 430 metres above sea level. Surface area runs to roughly 2.32 sq km, so plan for one area rather than the whole. There is roughly 26 km of bank, and each arm behaves like its own water. Size puts it in the front rank of our Algoma list. Wawa at 30 km is the nearest place to stop. Hornepayne is 109 km away, with Manitouwadge at 119 km. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
Depth is not on record here, so the bank has to tell you. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Public occurrence data for Algoma names walleye, northern pike, Iowa darter and yellow perch. Take it as the county picture rather than a promise for this water. On Mack Lake the first feature you find is usually worth a session.
Temperature averages peak at 16°C in July and bottom out at -16°C in January. A short, intense season is the rule this far north. Winter locks it down, and early May brings it back. Average temperatures cross freezing around early May in spring and again near mid November in autumn. Fish feed hardest at the start and the close of the open season. At Mack Lake the season follows that pattern closely.
No access rule appears in what we hold. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. The map shows no ramp or car park nearby, so this is a walk-in water. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. Alabama Lake sits 1.3 km off and takes the overflow. None of that is settled for Mack Lake in what we hold.
