Flat light and a covered sky today, with a proper ripple driven from the NW and pressure going nowhere. Most of the action on Lower Scotch Lake should come off the weed line and any gaps in it. If you must go, go in the night. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Lower Scotch Lake lies within the bounds of Kenora District, Ontario. What surrounds it is lake country bush. This is sizeable water at about 6.95 sq km, and a boat opens up most of it. Shoreline length is close to 17 km, and each section fishes a little differently. On our Kenora District list it sits near the top for size. The closest town, Ignace, is 46 km away. Atikokan is 62 km away, with Sioux Lookout at 115 km. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
Depth is not on record here, which means reading the ground instead. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Records held for Kenora District cover northern pike, longnose sucker, white sucker and johnny darter. County records show what lives in the area; the local agency holds the water-by-water list. On Lower Scotch Lake the first feature you find is usually worth a session.
Seasonal averages run from -19°C in January up to 18°C in July. A full turn of seasons, with the strongest sport on either side of summer. After early May the shallows warm and the fish move up. Expect the water usable from around early May until roughly mid November. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. Lower Scotch Lake runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
Public sources are silent on who controls the bank. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Mapping records no facilities at all near this water. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. A landowner's word beats anything printed elsewhere. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. For a change of water, Rye Lake is 5.4 km distant. Confirm access to Lower Scotch Lake locally before you travel.
