Low, flat cloud sitting over the water, with a gentle ripple from the SSW with the barometer flat. The water to cover at Loon Lake is the seam between weed and open water. The forecast backs the stretch from the day. Ride the conditions while they last. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Loon Lake is set in United Counties of Leeds and Grenville, Ontario. The bank is 129 metres above sea level. It runs to roughly 29 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. Roughly 3.9 km of bank means you can walk to a fresh area when one goes quiet. It is low-lying compared with other Ontario water we list. You are 14 km from Perth. The nearest city of size is Kingston, 64 km away. A county line runs close by, so local bylaws can differ within a short drive.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Reported across United Counties of Leeds and Grenville: pumpkinseed, bluegill, yellow perch and rock bass. County records show the wider picture rather than this one place. The shape of Loon Lake rewards a slow walk along one bank.
Climate records put July near 20°C and January near -10°C. The middle months are generous; the ends are demanding. The lid usually sets by midwinter and gives way around mid April. Expect the water usable from around mid April until roughly mid December. Late spring and early autumn carry the year between them. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Loon Lake.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. There is a car park 370 m from the bank. A pier 860 m from here gives a platform over deeper water. Mapping shows a campsite some 610 m from the water. A picnic site 890 m off makes this workable with family in tow. Toilets show in mapping about 650 m away. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. Treat access at Loon Lake as something to verify.
