Soft grey light all day today, with a busy W wind on the open water and no real change in pressure. Give inflow corners and shaded margins the first hour at Loon Lake. A stay-home graph, with the middle of the day as the one excuse to go. Downsize everything and pick the calmest water. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

The Cochrane District entry here is Loon Lake, in Ontario. It sits at 138 metres above sea level. Surface area runs to about 5 hectares — small enough to read in one session. Our Cochrane District list holds plenty of bigger water. Hearst lies 56 km from the water. Then Hornepayne, 105 km, and Kapuskasing, 144 km. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
No chart reached our records; the first cast is your sounding. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Species logged across Cochrane District include northern pike, yellow perch and white sucker. County data is a starting point rather than a guarantee. Fish Loon Lake where the bottom changes rather than where it looks deep.
Averages move between -19°C in January and 17°C in July. Winter runs most of the calendar, and everything worth doing happens in the gap. Expect a solid lid for months and a thaw around early May. Average temperatures cross freezing around early May in spring and again near mid November in autumn. Spring is short and heavy here; autumn is longer and steadier. Plan around that when you fish Loon Lake.
Public data does not answer the access question here. Somewhere to sit and eat is 690 m out. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. If the gate is shut, Wren Lake at 0.7 km is the nearest alternative. None of that is settled for Loon Lake in what we hold.
