Low, flat cloud sitting over the water, with a helpful ripple pushed from the SSE and pressure sitting still. Give the calm side of the wind the first hour at Longross Lake. Make the morning the heart of the trip. Ride the conditions while they last. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

The Kenora District entry here is Longross Lake, in Ontario. The bank is 438 metres above sea level. Roughly 67 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. The shoreline runs about 8.2 km, so it pays to pick a stretch and stay with it. By elevation it is in the upper part of our Ontario listings. The closest town, Atikokan, is 54 km distant. Thunder Bay is the closest city, 145 km away. No border sits close enough to matter.
No figure exists for depth, so let the water show you. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Kenora District records list northern pike, longnose sucker, white sucker, johnny darter and logperch among the fish reported. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. On Longross Lake the first feature you find is usually worth a session.
In an average year July sits at 18°C and January at -18°C. Spring and autumn carry the fishing; summer and winter test it. Look for the thaw near late April; the fishing lifts straight after. Expect the water usable from around late April until roughly mid November. The first weeks of open water and the last are the ones to plan for. Longross Lake runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
The access position is unclear from public sources. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. No launch point is recorded nearby, so this is a bank water unless you carry a boat in. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Gates get locked out of season on water like this. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. Mosher Lake, 4.3 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Confirm before you fish Longross Lake.
