Patchy cloud over the water after dark, with steady pressure of wind from the SSW and no real change in pressure. Start the search at Long Lake along the shallows early and the drop later. Everything points to the night. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Long Lake lies in Parry Sound District, Ontario. It lies 402 metres above sea level. At about 11 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. Roughly 2.3 km of bank means you can walk to a fresh area when one goes quiet. For a base, South River sits 15 km out. Greater Sudbury is the closest city, 156 km away. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
Depth is not on record here, so the bank has to tell you. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Reported across Parry Sound District: smallmouth bass, pumpkinseed, yellow perch and northern pike. It is the county picture; the agency list is water-specific. On Long Lake a short move beats a long cast.
Long-run averages give July about 18°C and January about -12°C. The year runs cold to warm and back, with clear transitions. Look for the thaw near late April; the fishing lifts straight after. Ice clears near late April and comes back about late November in a typical year. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Long Lake.
We have no record of the rules that apply on this bank. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. No slipway, car park or made path shows up nearby in mapping, so treat access as rough. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Check whether a boat is allowed before you tow one. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. The nearest alternative is Capsell Lake, 0.5 km out. For Long Lake, the notice at the access point is the final word.
