Bright moon and an empty sky tonight, with a decent WNW wind working the banks with the glass holding level. The water to cover at Long Alice Lake is structure within a cast of the bank. A hard day on paper; the night edges the rest. Scale down and fish slowly. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

The Thunder Bay District end of Ontario holds Long Alice Lake. The surface lies 301 metres up. It measures about 74 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. Shoreline length is close to 9.8 km, and each section fishes a little differently. Manitouwadge sits 31 km from here and is the nearest stop. The big place round here is Thunder Bay, 233 km distant. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
Depth remains unrecorded, so treat the first session as a survey. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Records held for Thunder Bay District cover cisco, blackfin cisco, rainbow smelt, bloater and shortjaw cisco. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. The near bank of Long Alice Lake is often the one people ignore.
Between January at about -16°C and July at about 16°C, the water has a wide range to work through. Cold dominates the year and the fishing works around it. The open season starts with the thaw, near enough early May. Averages suggest open water from about early May through to roughly mid November. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. The season on Long Alice Lake follows the weather closely.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Nothing in the way of made access shows up nearby: no ramp, no car park, no path. Keep the gear simple: light line, small hooks, split shot and a couple of proven lures. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. Failing this one, try Blood Lake, 1.3 km away. Where Long Alice Lake is concerned, a local answer beats a written one.
