Soft grey light all day today, with a helpful ripple pushed from the W with a settled glass. Most of the action on Log Lake should come off the shaded margin through bright spells. A tough forecast; the middle of the day offers the only real chance. Keep baits small and presentations quiet. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Look for Log Lake in Timiskaming District, Ontario. It sits at 329 metres above sea level. The water covers some 28 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. Around 2.8 km of margin, front to back. Some 52 km away sits Kirkland Lake, the nearest settlement. After that come Englehart at 64 km and Timmins at 71 km. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
No depth figure has reached our records, which makes a plummet useful. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. County-wide records name brook trout, northern pike, yellow perch, Iowa darter and walleye. County data is a starting point rather than a guarantee. The shape of Log Lake decides where the fish sit.
Average temperature peaks around 17°C in July and bottoms out near -17°C in January. Spring and autumn carry the fishing; summer and winter test it. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from early May. The season between ice runs from about early May to mid November. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. It sets the rhythm of the year at Log Lake.
Public data does not answer the access question here. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Nothing is mapped in the way of a ramp or car park within a short radius. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Take the rules with you rather than trusting memory. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. For a change of water, Hawley Lake is 1.3 km distant. Check the position at Log Lake before loading the car.
