No cloud to trap the day's warmth tonight, with a working WNW breeze with a settled glass. The fish at Little Trout Lake are likely to sit near structure within a cast of the bank. If you pick one session, make it the night. Change depth before you change anything else. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Night
Look for Little Trout Lake in the Algoma part of Ontario. It stands 259 metres above sea level. At 7 hectares it is the sort of place you fish for an evening rather than a day. Most waters listed here for Algoma are larger. Some 74 km away sits Sault Ste. Marie, the nearest settlement. The big place round here is Greater Sudbury, 290 km distant. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Records held for Algoma cover walleye, northern pike and Iowa darter. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. On Little Trout Lake the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Long-term averages put August at about 16°C and January near -10°C. Cold locks it up for a good stretch each year. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from late April. Ice clears near late April and comes back about late November in a typical year. The first weeks of open water and the last are the ones to plan for. Expect Little Trout Lake to follow that timing.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Mapping shows an empty shoreline: no ramp, no jetty, no marked entry. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Gates get locked out of season on water like this. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. The nearest alternative is Round Lake, 2.3 km out. Treat Little Trout Lake as unsettled until someone local tells you otherwise.
