Stars out and no cloud tonight, with a decent WNW wind working the banks and pressure sitting still. The water to cover at Little Butler Lake is the weed line and any gaps in it. Nothing special in any period, but nothing dead either. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Little Butler Lake is set in Kenora District, Ontario. It lies 426 metres above sea level. Roughly 11 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. Bank access stretches around 1.7 km in total. Most waters listed here for Kenora District are larger. For supplies, Ignace is 15 km out. Thunder Bay is the closest city, 225 km away. One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Fish documented in Kenora District include northern pike, longnose sucker, white sucker and johnny darter. It is the county picture; the agency list is water-specific. Little Butler Lake gives up more to patience than to distance.
Temperature averages peak at 18°C in July and bottom out at -18°C in January. The middle months are generous; the ends are demanding. Ice fishing carries the winter, and the water opens about late April. Averages place the thaw at late April and the freeze at mid November. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. Little Butler Lake runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
Whether you may fish here is not something records settle. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Mapping shows an empty shoreline: no ramp, no jetty, no marked entry. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Bank access can be seasonal on ground like this. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. For a change of water, Butler Lake is 1.3 km distant. Treat access at Little Butler Lake as something to verify.
