Overcast skies today, with hardly a ripple anywhere and the barometer holding steady. Give reed fringes and open pockets the first hour at Little Bicknell Lake. Expectations low today; if anything moves, it will be in the night. Lower the pace and stay patient. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Ontario holds Little Bicknell Lake, in Thunder Bay District. It lies 264 metres above sea level. Surface area is around 70 hectares, which gives you real water without needing a boat. The edge runs 4.2 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. The nearest place of any size is Longlac, 63 km away. Further out sit Manitouwadge (79 km) and Geraldton (93 km). No border sits close enough to matter.
Depth is unmeasured here, so let the shoreline guide you. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Species logged across Thunder Bay District include cisco, blackfin cisco and rainbow smelt. County data is a starting point rather than a guarantee. On Little Bicknell Lake the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
The seasonal spread runs -19°C to 16°C. The window is narrow, and fish feed hard while it lasts. The lid usually sets by midwinter and gives way around early May. From about early May to around mid November, expect open water on the long-run figures. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. That is the shape of the year on Little Bicknell Lake.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Mapping is blank for access, so scout the approach before committing the car. A light spinning outfit with a small box of lures and some bait covers most of what swims here. Check locally before you travel, because a wasted drive is a long one. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. The nearest alternative is Bicknell Lake, 2.5 km out. Check the position at Little Bicknell Lake before loading the car.
