Line Lake, Ontario: Fishing Spots and Seasons

• Overview

  You will find Line Lake in Algoma, Ontario. It sits at 415 metres above sea level. At about 13 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. Roughly 1.7 km of bank means you can walk to a fresh area when one goes quiet. On size it sits at the modest end of our Algoma list. Wawa sits 38 km from here and is the nearest stop. After that come Hornepayne at 106 km and Manitouwadge at 111 km. No border sits close enough to matter.

• Where to Fish on Line Lake

  Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Algoma records list walleye, northern pike and Iowa darter among the fish reported. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. The near bank of Line Lake is often the one people ignore.

  Averages here run 16°C at the top of summer and -16°C at the bottom of winter. The ice season is long here and the open one short. Ice-out usually falls in early May, and the weeks after it fish hardest. The open-water window runs from around early May to about mid November in an average year. Fish feed hardest at the start and the close of the open season. Anyone fishing Line Lake regularly works to that calendar.

A car park lies 410 m away, so the walk in is short. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Season dates differ by species, so read the table. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. The nearest alternative is Nemategun Lake, 0.7 km out. For Line Lake in particular, ask before you travel.
