No cloud to trap the day's warmth tonight, with a busy SW wind on the open water and the barometer holding steady. Expect most activity at Lake La Muir around windblown banks where food collects. If you must go, go in the night. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Lake La Muir falls in Nipissing District, part of Ontario. It stands 393 metres above sea level. About 7.81 sq km, so local knowledge or a boat saves a lot of walking. Some 32 km of shoreline means conditions can differ from one end to the other. It ranks high for size among our Nipissing District listings. The closest town, Mattawa, is 55 km distant. Barrie is the closest city, 179 km away. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
No chart reached our records; the first cast is your sounding. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. County-wide records name smallmouth bass, cisco, yellow perch, pumpkinseed and rock bass. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. On Lake La Muir the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.
Long-run averages give July about 18°C and January about -13°C. A full turn of seasons, with the strongest sport on either side of summer. Break-up comes around late April, and the run that follows is short and strong. From about late April to around late November, expect open water on the long-run figures. The weeks after the thaw and the ones before the freeze are the strongest. On Lake La Muir the same rules apply, with local timing.
Our records carry no access rule either way. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Mapping shows a campsite some 750 m from the water. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. A phone call first saves an afternoon. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. Deer Yard Lake, 2.3 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Nothing here settles the position at Lake La Muir for certain.
