Solid cloud cover today, with a useful NW wind pushing food about and no real change in pressure. Give inflow corners and shaded margins the first hour at Lac Barbotte. Expect the better fishing from morning through afternoon. Give the likely spots time before moving. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Lac Barbotte sits within Sudbury in Ontario. The surface lies 216 metres up. At about 69 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. Shoreline length is close to 14 km, and each section fishes a little differently. It lies lower than most water we list in Ontario. Head to Markstay-Warren, 35 km away, for anything you forgot. Further out sit Greater Sudbury (51 km) and West Nipissing (52 km). It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
No figure exists for depth, so let the water show you. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Records held for Sudbury cover smallmouth bass, northern pike and yellow perch. The county list is broader than any single water. Lac Barbotte repays a walk before the first cast.
Typical July readings run about 19°C; by January the average is down near -12°C. Cold locks it up for a good stretch each year. After late April the shallows warm and the fish move up. Averages place the thaw at late April and the freeze at early December. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. The season on Lac Barbotte rarely departs from it.
The access position is unclear from public sources. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Nothing is mapped in the way of a ramp or car park within a short radius. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. Lac Clair, 1.4 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Check the position on Lac Barbotte before loading the car.
