Thin cloud passing over the water tonight, with a gentle ripple from the SW with the glass holding level. Kinmount Lake should fish best around any hard bottom among the soft today. A grinding day likely, with the morning worth the effort if any is. Quiet tactics only; the fish will not chase today.

Kinmount Lake is one of the Peterborough County waters in Ontario. The country round it is pine and birch from end to end. The bank runs about 1.9 km all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. It is one of the smaller waters we list in Peterborough County. For supplies, Bobcaygeon is 27 km out. Further out sit Fenelon Falls (29 km) and Haliburton Village (31 km). A county line runs close by, so local bylaws can differ within a short drive.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. County-wide records name rock bass, pumpkinseed and smallmouth bass. The county figures include rivers and lakes alike. On Kinmount Lake the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Long-term averages put July at about 19°C and January near -10°C. Cold locks it up for a good stretch each year. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly mid April. On average, mid April opens the water and early December closes it again. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. Time your trip to Kinmount Lake by conditions rather than dates.
The access position is unclear from public sources. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. The map shows no ramp or car park nearby, so this is a walk-in water. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Ask in the nearest town if you are unsure. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. Birchbark Lake at 4.7 km is the sensible second choice. Treat access at Kinmount Lake as something to verify.
