Flat light and a covered sky today, with hardly a ripple anywhere and the barometer holding steady. Expect most activity at Kin Lake around any hard bottom among the soft. Little to get excited about, though the night holds a sliver of promise. Lower the pace and stay patient. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Kin Lake sits within Sudbury in Ontario. Height above sea level is 366 metres. It measures about 13 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. A shoreline of some 1.9 km keeps the choices simple. Our Sudbury list holds plenty of bigger water. The nearest town is Chapleau, 66 km away. It is 299 km to Greater Sudbury, the nearest city. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Reported across Sudbury: smallmouth bass, northern pike, yellow perch and Iowa darter. The list covers the county rather than this water alone, so treat it as a guide. The near bank of Kin Lake is often the one people ignore.
July is the warm end of the year here, averaging about 16°C, while January sits near -17°C. Cold dominates the year and the fishing works around it. Once it clears, about early May, the fishing comes on quickly. Ice usually gives way near early May, and forms again about mid November. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. On Kin Lake the same rules apply, with local timing.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. No slipway, car park or made path shows up nearby in mapping, so treat access as rough. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Bank access can be seasonal on ground like this. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. For a change of water, Crooked Lake is 1.9 km distant. Signs at Kin Lake carry more weight than any list.
