A grey, even sky over the water, with a soft W wind and the barometer holding steady. Whatever swims in Kilkenny Lake should be near points where shallow meets deep. Little to get excited about, though the middle of the day holds a sliver of promise. Downsize everything and pick the calmest water.

In Ontario, Kilkenny Lake falls inside Algoma. It sits in northern bush country. At roughly 3 hectares, the whole thing is within casting reach of a single walk. Our Algoma list holds plenty of bigger water. Start from Wawa, 20 km down the road. Chapleau follows at 94 km, then Hornepayne at 122 km. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
Depth is not on record here, so the bank has to tell you. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Survey and observation records for Algoma include walleye, northern pike and Iowa darter. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. On Kilkenny Lake that means starting tight and working out.
Long-term averages put July at about 16°C and January near -16°C. Little of the calendar is open water, so timing counts for everything. Ice is part of the season here, ending near early May. On the long-run averages the water opens up around early May and starts locking again about mid November. The weeks after the thaw and the ones before the freeze are the strongest. Expect Kilkenny Lake to follow that timing.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. Nothing formal is recorded here: no ramp, no car park, no marked path. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Failing this one, try Kimbal Lake, 0.5 km away. For Kilkenny Lake in particular, ask before you travel.
