Clear conditions and high sun today, with a stiffish breeze from the NW and pressure going nowhere. The productive water at Kemuel Lake will be around the shaded margin through bright spells. Numbers are low everywhere; the night is the pick of them. Scale down and fish slowly. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Kemuel Lake is listed under Rainy River District, Ontario. Land around it is mixed forest. With some 56 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. At about 6.5 km of edge, most people work one arm at a time. It sits higher than most water we list in Ontario. Atikokan is the closest place, 4.2 km off. Thunder Bay sits 178 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
Depth went unrecorded, which puts the reading back on you. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Fish documented in Rainy River District include northern pike, smallmouth bass, yellow perch and walleye. Take it as the county picture rather than a promise for this water. On Kemuel Lake the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
The warmest month averages 18°C, the coldest about -17°C. Winter closes the water for a while, and the reopening is worth catching. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around late April. Average temperatures cross freezing around late April in spring and again near mid November in autumn. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. Kemuel Lake runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
The access position is unclear from public sources. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. There is no mapped parking or launch close by, which usually means walking in. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. Should this one be busy, Olympia Lake is 2.9 km off. Signs at Kemuel Lake carry more weight than any list.
