Low, flat cloud sitting over the water, with a consistent blow out of the W with the barometer flat. The fish at Keegos Lake are likely to sit near sheltered bays and points. The forecast is against you; the middle of the day is the least bad option. Short, focused sessions beat a long grind today.

Keegos Lake is a Nipissing District water, in Ontario. It sits at 367 metres above sea level. This is a pocket water of some 4 hectares, and every part of it is reachable from the bank. Our Nipissing District list holds plenty of bigger water. Chalk River lies 57 km from the water. Beyond it, Deep River at 60 km and Petawawa at 62 km. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Open biodiversity records for Nipissing District list smallmouth bass, cisco, yellow perch and pumpkinseed. The county list is broader than any single water. The shape of Keegos Lake rewards a slow walk along one bank.
The range across the year is -13°C to 18°C. A hard winter is normal, and the thaw brings a strong few weeks. The lid usually sets by midwinter and gives way around late April. Average temperatures cross freezing around late April in spring and again near late November in autumn. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. Keegos Lake runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. Overnight stays are possible about 1.4 km out, where camping is mapped. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Season dates differ by species, so read the table. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. The nearest alternative is Kaw Lake, 0.6 km out. None of that is settled for Keegos Lake in what we hold.
