A bright day with hardly any cloud, with a stiffish breeze from the W and steady pressure. Start the search at Kauffeldt Lake along shallow cover and weed edges. The day holds up well from morning through afternoon. Work the productive water thoroughly. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Kauffeldt Lake is one of the Renfrew County waters in Ontario. What surrounds it is lake country bush. It measures about 14 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. The bank runs about 1.9 km all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. For supplies, Eganville is 30 km out. The nearest city of size is Nepean, 125 km away. No border sits close enough to matter.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Survey and observation records for Renfrew County include smallmouth bass, pumpkinseed, yellow perch, rock bass and brook trout. County records show what lives in the area; the local agency holds the water-by-water list. On Kauffeldt Lake a short move beats a long cast.
Averages here run 18°C at the top of summer and -12°C at the bottom of winter. Winter shuts the surface down for months. After late April the shallows warm and the fish move up. Averages place the thaw at late April and the freeze at early December. Spring is short and heavy here; autumn is longer and steadier. Kauffeldt Lake fishes to that pattern most years.
Public data does not answer the access question here. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Nothing is listed nearby for parking or launching a boat. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. First Kargus Lake, 1.1 km away, makes the obvious fallback. For Kauffeldt Lake, the notice at the access point is the final word.
