Dull, settled light over the water, with a steady WNW wind with the glass holding level. Activity on Kasmir Lake should centre on shallow cover and weed edges. Expectations low today; if anything moves, it will be in the night. Lower the pace and stay patient. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Kasmir Lake is one of the Thunder Bay District listings for Ontario. It lies 330 metres above sea level. It measures about 80 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. The whole outline is near 4.6 km, and most of it is walkable. The closest town, Greenstone, is 31 km distant. Geraldton follows at 37 km, then Longlac at 55 km. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
Our records hold no depth for this water. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Survey and observation records for Thunder Bay District include cisco, blackfin cisco and rainbow smelt. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. Read Kasmir Lake before you fish it and the day goes better.
Expect July to average close to 16°C, with January the cold end at about -20°C. Open water arrives late and leaves early, which concentrates the fishing. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around early May. On the long-run averages the water opens up around early May and starts locking again about mid November. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. It sets the rhythm of the year at Kasmir Lake.
No public source sets out the position on this bank. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Access is unmapped, which usually means a farm track and a walk. Keep the gear simple: light line, small hooks, split shot and a couple of proven lures. Where a permit is needed, the nearest town usually sells it. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. The nearest alternative is Pollywog Lake, 1.6 km out. Rules at Kasmir Lake are worth checking on the day.
