A mix of sun and cloud over the water, with a soft W wind with the barometer flat. The fish at Kasakanta Lake are likely to sit near the shaded margin through bright spells. Quiet conditions all day, with the night marginally better. Save the long walk for a better forecast. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Kasakanta Lake is listed under Sudbury, Ontario. The water sits 377 metres up. At 1.14 sq km this is proper open water rather than a pond. Some 7.7 km of bank gives room to move when the wind turns. On our Sudbury list it sits near the top for size. Capreol is the closest town at 84 km. After that come Valley East at 89 km and Rayside-Balfour at 93 km. This one is safely inside the county line.
Depth is not on record here, so the bank has to tell you. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Survey and observation records for Sudbury include smallmouth bass, northern pike, yellow perch and Iowa darter. The list covers the county rather than this water alone, so treat it as a guide. Read Kasakanta Lake before you fish it and the day goes better.
Between January at about -16°C and July at about 17°C, the water has a wide range to work through. The year runs cold to warm and back, with clear transitions. Once it clears, about late April, the fishing comes on quickly. The open-water window runs from around late April to about mid November in an average year. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Kasakanta Lake.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Formal access is not mapped, so the last stretch is likely on foot. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. The nearest alternative is Peggy Lake, 2 km out. Nothing on Kasakanta Lake should be assumed from this page alone.
