Soft grey light all day today, with the water lying quiet with the barometer flat. Activity on Kamuck Lake should centre on inflow corners and shaded margins. A stay-home graph, with the middle of the day as the one excuse to go. Downsize everything and pick the calmest water. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Look for Kamuck Lake in the Thunder Bay District part of Ontario. The bank is 386 metres above sea level. About 2.03 sq km, so local knowledge or a boat saves a lot of walking. There is roughly 30 km of bank, and each arm behaves like its own water. It is among the larger waters listed here for Thunder Bay District. Schreiber lies 46 km from the water. Terrace Bay lies 51 km off, Greenstone another 58 km. The nearest boundary is a fair way off.
Depth went unrecorded, which puts the reading back on you. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Records held for Thunder Bay District cover cisco, blackfin cisco and rainbow smelt. Take it as the county picture rather than a promise for this water. At Kamuck Lake the first feature you find is worth twenty minutes.
Between January at about -18°C and July at about 16°C, the water has a wide range to work through. A short, intense season is the rule this far north. Break-up comes around early May, and the run that follows is short and strong. Climate figures give an open season running early May to mid November. Reckon on open water from spring through to late autumn, with May and June the strongest. Expect Kamuck Lake to follow that timing.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Formal access is not mapped, so the last stretch is likely on foot. Keep the gear simple: light line, small hooks, split shot and a couple of proven lures. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Ensign Lake at 2.2 km is the sensible second choice. Check the position on Kamuck Lake before loading the car.
