A broken sky giving spells of shade, with a busy WNW wind on the open water and no real change in pressure. The fish at Kabaigon Lake are likely to sit near structure within a cast of the bank. Expect the better fishing from the day. Work fewer spots, but work them properly. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Kabaigon Lake is one of the Thunder Bay District listings for Ontario. It stands 449 metres above sea level. At 1.36 sq km this is proper open water rather than a pond. The outline measures near 8.8 km, so local knowledge counts. It is high ground by Ontario standards. Lappe at 68 km is the nearest place to stop. Parkdale is 77 km and College Park 78 km. This one is safely inside the county line.
The records we hold are silent on depth, so plan to find it yourself. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Fish documented in Thunder Bay District include cisco, blackfin cisco, rainbow smelt, bloater and shortjaw cisco. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. Kabaigon Lake gives up more to patience than to distance.
Expect July to average close to 17°C, with January the cold end at about -18°C. A hard winter is normal, and the thaw brings a strong few weeks. The lid usually goes in early May, which opens the strongest weeks of the year. On the long-run averages the water opens up around early May and starts locking again about mid November. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. At Kabaigon Lake the season follows that pattern closely.
Whether you may fish here is not something records settle. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Nothing built is recorded close to the bank here. One rod, a handful of hooks and floats, and a few small lures are enough for this water. Season dates differ by species, so read the table. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. The nearest alternative is Two Mile Lake, 1.5 km out. For Kabaigon Lake in particular, ask before you travel.
