A closed sky with even light today, with a persistent wind from the WSW and steady pressure. The water to cover at Johnston Lake is the first drop-off and weed lines. If you pick one session, make it the evening. Work fewer spots, but work them properly. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

Night
The Parry Sound District entry here is Johnston Lake, in Ontario. This is lake country bush country. Roughly 10 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. The edge runs 1.9 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. Parry Sound at 11 km is the nearest place to stop. For a city, Barrie is 119 km off. Within easy reach: Miller Lake out at 1.3 km, Boy Lake at 1.6 km, Campbell Lake out at 1.6 km, Strathdee Lake at 1.9 km and Trout Lake out at 2 km. This one is safely inside the county line.
No published figure covers depth, so learn it as you fish. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Across Parry Sound District, recorded fish include smallmouth bass, pumpkinseed, yellow perch, northern pike and rock bass. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. Johnston Lake gives up its fish to patience rather than distance.
Long-run averages give July about 19°C and January about -10°C. Expect a real winter and a strong spring after it. The lid usually goes in mid April, which opens the strongest weeks of the year. Going by climate averages, expect open water from about mid April until roughly early December. Look to early summer and the first cool weeks of autumn. The season on Johnston Lake follows the weather closely.
No public source sets out the position on this bank. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Mapping is blank for access, so scout the approach before committing the car. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Bank access can be seasonal on ground like this. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. Miller Lake, 1.3 km away, makes the obvious fallback. For Johnston Lake, the notice at the access point is the final word.
