Low, flat cloud sitting over the water, with the water lying quiet and steady pressure. Jason Lake should fish best around the shaded margin through bright spells today. A stay-home graph, with the morning as the one excuse to go. Quiet tactics only; the fish will not chase today. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Jason Lake is one of the Thunder Bay District waters in Ontario. Height above sea level is 303 metres. At about 61 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. Shoreline length is close to 8.0 km, and each section fishes a little differently. Schreiber sits 7.5 km from here and is the nearest stop. After that come Terrace Bay at 20 km and Nipigon at 69 km. The nearest boundary is a fair way off.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Fish documented in Thunder Bay District include cisco, blackfin cisco, rainbow smelt and bloater. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. Read Jason Lake before you fish it and the day goes better.
July is the warm end of the year here, averaging about 16°C, while January sits near -16°C. Everything is compressed into the middle of the year. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near early May. On the long-run averages the water opens up around early May and starts locking again about mid November. Late spring and early autumn carry the year between them. Anyone fishing Jason Lake regularly works to that calendar.
No access rule appears in what we hold. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. There is no recorded infrastructure here; expect to find your own way in. One rod, a handful of hooks and floats, and a few small lures are enough for this water. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. The nearest alternative is Bentarm Lake, 1.8 km out. None of that is settled for Jason Lake in what we hold.
