A windy day on the water, with enough W wind to stack food downwind and pressure sitting still. Give inflow corners and shaded margins the first hour at Island Lake. The evening should out-fish the rest of the day. Take the steady approach over the searching one. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Island Lake belongs to Algoma, Ontario. It stands 194 metres above sea level. Roughly 35 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. The full circuit measures close to 3.4 km on foot. It is low-lying compared with other Ontario water we list. Little Current sits 29 km from here and is the nearest stop. Espanola lies 34 km off, Elliot Lake another 42 km. Two sets of local rules meet not far from this water.
Depth figures are not published for this one. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Algoma records list walleye, northern pike and Iowa darter among the fish reported. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. Read Island Lake before you fish it and the day goes better.
Expect July near 19°C and January near -10°C on the long-run figures. Seasons are distinct, and each one fishes differently. Break-up comes around late April, and the run that follows is short and strong. Open water usually runs from late April until about early December. The first weeks of open water and the last are the ones to plan for. Plan any trip to Island Lake around it.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. There is no mapped parking or launch nearby, which keeps numbers down. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Rules for this water may differ from the county norm. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. The nearest alternative is Nadawe Lake, 1.2 km out. Ask locally about Island Lake if anything is unclear.
