A clean, cloudless night over the water, with steady pressure of wind from the WNW and no real change in pressure. Activity on Iota Lake should centre on structure within a cast of the bank. Block out the hours from the day. Cover water early, then settle where the signs are. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Iota Lake is set in Renfrew County, Ontario. The water sits 157 metres up. It is pond-in-a-field scale, with the far bank a short lob away. Our Renfrew County list holds plenty of bigger water. 5.3 km away sits Deep River, the nearest town. After that come Chalk River at 11 km and Petawawa at 30 km. A border sits close enough to be relevant to the paperwork.
No figure exists for depth, so let the water show you. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Renfrew County records list smallmouth bass, pumpkinseed, yellow perch and rock bass among the fish reported. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. Iota Lake responds to conditions more than to tactics.
On the long-term average, July reads 19°C and January reads -13°C. Winter shuts the surface down for months. Winter locks it down, and late April brings it back. Going by climate averages, expect open water from about late April until roughly early December. Late spring and early autumn carry the year between them. Iota Lake runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
No access rule appears in what we hold. There is no mapped parking or launch nearby, which keeps numbers down. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Season dates differ by species, so read the table. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Failing this one, try Spur Lake, 0.9 km away. Rules at Iota Lake are worth checking on the day.
