Overcast skies today, with mild air moving in from the W and steady pressure. Give the first drop-off and weed lines the first hour at House Lake. A tough forecast; the night offers the only real chance. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

House Lake belongs to Timiskaming District, Ontario. The setting is lake country bush. With some 15 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. Shoreline comes to about 1.9 km, small enough to learn in a day. Nearest place of any size is Englehart, 82 km away. It is 137 km to Greater Sudbury, the nearest city. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
Depth went unrecorded, which puts the reading back on you. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. County-wide records name brook trout, northern pike and yellow perch. County data is a starting point rather than a guarantee. The near bank of House Lake is often the one people ignore.
In an average year July sits at 17°C and January at -16°C. The year runs cold to warm and back, with clear transitions. Break-up comes around late April, and the run that follows is short and strong. Ice usually gives way near late April, and forms again about mid November. The weeks after the thaw and the ones before the freeze are the strongest. The season on House Lake rarely departs from it.
Public sources are silent on who controls the bank. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Mapping is blank for access, so scout the approach before committing the car. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Check whether a boat is allowed before you tow one. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Tramp Lake at 2 km is the sensible second choice. None of that is settled for House Lake in what we hold.
