An even grey lid over the water, with a whisper of wind from the WNW and no real change in pressure. Expect most activity at Hotspot Lake around the calm side of the wind. The forecast backs the stretch from morning through afternoon. Ride the conditions while they last. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Look for Hotspot Lake in Sudbury, Ontario. This is mixed forest ground. Small at around 4 hectares: two anglers spread out cover most of it. On size it sits at the modest end of our Sudbury list. For a base, Chapleau sits 46 km out. Greater Sudbury sits 235 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Fish documented in Sudbury include smallmouth bass, northern pike, yellow perch and Iowa darter. The county figures include rivers and lakes alike. On Hotspot Lake that means starting tight and working out.
Long-term averages put July at about 16°C and January near -15°C. Expect a real winter and a strong spring after it. Look for the thaw near late April; the fishing lifts straight after. Climate figures give an open season running late April to mid November. Spring is short and heavy here; autumn is longer and steadier. Hotspot Lake runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. The map shows no ramp or car park nearby, so this is a walk-in water. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Check whether a boat is allowed before you tow one. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. The nearest alternative is Petrosky Lake, 2.3 km out. Nothing on Hotspot Lake should be assumed from this page alone.
