Soft grey light all day today, with enough WSW wind to stack food downwind and no real change in pressure. The productive water at Hooton Lake will be around the calm side of the wind. The evening is where the day comes good. Change depth before you change anything else. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Hooton Lake is a Parry Sound District water, in Ontario. The country here is rolling bush. Surface area is around 23 hectares, which gives you real water without needing a boat. Shoreline comes to about 2.6 km, small enough to learn in a day. Ground here is low by Ontario standards. Parry Sound at 12 km is the nearest place to stop. Further out sit Penetanguishene (52 km) and Midland (56 km). One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. County-wide records name smallmouth bass, pumpkinseed, yellow perch and northern pike. It is the county picture; the agency list is water-specific. Hooton Lake gives up more to patience than to distance.
Long-run averages give July about 19°C and January about -8°C. The year runs cold to warm and back, with clear transitions. Ice is part of the season here, ending near mid April. The season between ice runs from about mid April to early December. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Hooton Lake.
Public data does not answer the access question here. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Mapping shows an empty shoreline: no ramp, no jetty, no marked entry. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Where the road in crosses private land, ask first. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. The nearest alternative is Kingshott Lake, 0.8 km out. Nothing here settles the position at Hooton Lake for certain.
