A crisp, open sky after dark, with a light chop building from the WNW and pressure sitting still. The productive water at History Lake will be around structure within a cast of the bank. The day holds up well from morning through afternoon. Work the productive water thoroughly. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

History Lake is a Kenora District water, in Ontario. Everything around it is mixed forest. Roughly 14 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. The full circuit measures close to 3.0 km on foot. On size it sits at the modest end of our Kenora District list. Nearest town is Vermilion Bay, 36 km off. Winnipeg sits 284 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Across Kenora District, recorded fish include northern pike, longnose sucker and white sucker. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. History Lake fishes better once you know its edges.
In an average year July sits at 18°C and January at -18°C. Fishing here follows the temperature more than the calendar. Once it clears, about late April, the fishing comes on quickly. Averages suggest open water from about late April through to roughly mid November. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to History Lake.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Nothing is mapped in the way of a ramp or car park within a short radius. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Local rules can differ across the county line, so check where you stand. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. Passover Lake sits 2 km off and takes the overflow. Ask locally about History Lake if anything is unclear.
