Patchy cloud over the water after dark, with a kind SSW breeze on the water with a settled glass. Give the weed line and any gaps in it the first hour at Harts Lake. The day holds up well from night into morning. Work the productive water thoroughly. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Look for Harts Lake in the Lanark County part of Ontario. The setting is mixed forest. With some 24 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. About 2.8 km of bank, so nothing stays unexplored for long. Ground here is low by Ontario standards. Mississippi Mills at 31 km is the nearest place to stop. For a city, Nepean is 70 km off. This one is safely inside the county line.
The records we hold are silent on depth, so plan to find it yourself. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Public occurrence data for Lanark County names pumpkinseed, rock bass and smallmouth bass. Protected fish appear in the records for this area, so treat the list as information, not an invitation. Anyone new to Harts Lake should walk it once before setting up.
July is the warm end of the year here, averaging about 19°C, while January sits near -11°C. Seasons are distinct, and each one fishes differently. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near mid April. From about mid April to around early December, expect open water on the long-run figures. From the thaw to midsummer the fishing improves week by week. It holds true on Harts Lake more years than not.
No access rule appears in what we hold. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. No made access appears within a short radius, so plan to park on a verge and walk. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Snake Lake, 1.2 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Check the current arrangement for Harts Lake.
