A grey, even sky over the water, with a light W breeze with the barometer flat. Give inflow corners and shaded margins the first hour at Hare Lake. A grinding day likely, with the night worth the effort if any is. Save the long walk for a better forecast. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Hare Lake is listed under Timiskaming District, Ontario. The bank is 356 metres above sea level. It runs to roughly 11 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. There is roughly 1.8 km of shoreline here, which is a short walk end to end. Englehart is the closest town at 90 km. It is 128 km to Greater Sudbury, the nearest city. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Across Timiskaming District, recorded fish include brook trout, northern pike and yellow perch. Take it as the county picture rather than a promise for this water. Work Hare Lake in sections rather than trying to cover it.
Climate normals give 17°C for July and -16°C for January. Cold winters and warm summers give a wide working range. Winter fishing happens on the ice here, with open water back around late April. From about late April to around mid November, expect open water on the long-run figures. The shoulder weeks of the open season are the productive ones. The season on Hare Lake rarely departs from it.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Nothing in the way of made access shows up nearby: no ramp, no car park, no path. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. Porphyry Lake, 1.3 km away, makes the obvious fallback. For Hare Lake, the notice at the access point is the final word.
