Hard light and clear air over the water, with just enough W wind to ripple the surface and the barometer holding steady. Expect most activity at Halifax Lake around windblown banks where food collects. A tough forecast; the night offers the only real chance. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly.

Night
Halifax Lake sits in Sudbury, out in Ontario. The ground round it is mixed forest. Roughly 65 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. The edge covers about 8.4 km, enough to hold several distinct areas. It is low-lying compared with other Ontario water we list. For a base, Lively sits 27 km out. Greater Sudbury is 32 km and Azilda 39 km. This one is safely inside the county line.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Survey and observation records for Sudbury include smallmouth bass, northern pike, yellow perch, Iowa darter and walleye. County records show what lives in the area; the local agency holds the water-by-water list. On Halifax Lake the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Long-run averages give July about 19°C and January about -12°C. A solid cap is the normal state through winter. Break-up comes around late April, and the run that follows is short and strong. Climate figures give an open season running late April to early December. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. That is the shape of the year on Halifax Lake.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Access is unmapped, which usually means a farm track and a walk. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Check whether bait restrictions apply before you buy any. For a change of water, West Tanner Lake is 2.2 km distant. Nothing on Halifax Lake should be assumed from this page alone.
