Dull, settled light over the water, with a light chop building from the WNW and steady pressure. Whatever swims in Gull Lake should be near bays that hold the day's warmth. Quiet conditions all day, with the night marginally better. Save the long walk for a better forecast. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

In Ontario, Gull Lake belongs to Cochrane District. It lies 165 metres above sea level. Roughly 1.17 sq km of surface: treat each bay as a water in its own right. With 8.1 km or so of shoreline, boat anglers cover ground the bank cannot. It is among the larger waters listed here for Cochrane District. Start from Hearst, 48 km down the road. Hornepayne is 98 km and Kapuskasing 138 km. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Fish documented in Cochrane District include northern pike, yellow perch, white sucker, Iowa darter and logperch. County records show the wider picture rather than this one place. Anyone new to Gull Lake should walk it once before setting up.
Averages here run 16°C at the top of summer and -19°C at the bottom of winter. This is a two-season water: locked, then wide open. The lid usually goes in early May, which opens the strongest weeks of the year. The open-water window runs from around early May to about mid November in an average year. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. That shapes the year on Gull Lake.
Whether you may fish here is not something records settle. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Mapping is blank for access, so scout the approach before committing the car. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. Should this one be busy, Heron Lake is 1.4 km off. Where Gull Lake is concerned, a local answer beats a written one.
