Low, flat cloud sitting over the water, with an easy breeze from the W and steady pressure. The productive water at Groom Lake will be around the shaded margin through bright spells. A tough forecast; the middle of the day offers the only real chance. Keep baits small and presentations quiet. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Timiskaming District, Ontario, is where Groom Lake sits. Height above sea level is 376 metres. Small at around 8 hectares: two anglers spread out cover most of it. Our Timiskaming District list holds plenty of bigger water. Timmins lies 64 km from the water. Further out sit Kirkland Lake (80 km) and Englehart (89 km). It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
There is no published depth for this one, so start shallow and work out. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Reported across Timiskaming District: brook trout, northern pike, yellow perch, Iowa darter and walleye. The county list is broader than any single water. Fish Groom Lake where the bottom changes rather than where it looks deep.
Climate records put July near 17°C and January near -17°C. Open water is the exception rather than the rule here. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near early May. Climate averages put the opening at about early May and the closing near mid November. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. Groom Lake fishes to that pattern most years.
No public source sets out the position on this bank. No slipway, car park or made path shows up nearby in mapping, so treat access as rough. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. For a change of water, Spruce Lake is 0.6 km distant. None of that is settled for Groom Lake in what we hold.
