Showers crossing the water today, with a mirror surface most of the day and pressure sitting still. Fish at Graveyard Lake should hold close to sheltered bays and points. A grinding day likely, with the morning worth the effort if any is. Quiet tactics only; the fish will not chase today.

Graveyard Lake is one of the Cochrane District waters in Ontario. Elevation runs to 247 metres. It measures some 1.51 sq km, and wind has room to build across it. At about 5.6 km of edge, most people work one arm at a time. It ranks high for size among our Cochrane District listings. Kapuskasing is the closest town at 44 km. Hearst follows at 85 km, then Smooth Rock Falls at 90 km. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
Nothing in our records gives a depth for this one. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. County-wide records name northern pike, yellow perch, white sucker, Iowa darter and logperch. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. Anyone new to Graveyard Lake should walk it once before setting up.
Expect July near 17°C and January near -18°C on the long-run figures. A short, intense season is the rule this far north. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly early May. Break-up near early May, freeze-up near mid November: that is the shape of an average year. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Graveyard Lake.
Our records carry no access rule either way. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Access is unmapped, which usually means a farm track and a walk. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. A phone call first saves an afternoon. Check whether bait restrictions apply before you buy any. For a change of water, Townend Lake is 5.7 km distant. For Graveyard Lake in particular, ask before you travel.
