Dull, settled light over the water, with a decent W wind working the banks and the barometer holding steady. Grants Lake should fish best around any hard bottom among the soft today. A stay-home graph, with the middle of the day as the one excuse to go. Downsize everything and pick the calmest water.

Grants Lake lies in Renfrew County, Ontario. The ground around here is pine and birch. It measures about 24 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. A shoreline of some 2.5 km keeps the choices simple. The nearest place of any size is Deep River, 42 km away. Chalk River is 46 km away, with Mattawa at 57 km. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
Our records hold no depth for this water. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Reported across Renfrew County: smallmouth bass, pumpkinseed and yellow perch. The county list is broader than any single water. At Grants Lake the water rewards a slow, careful approach.
The year swings from about -13°C in January to roughly 18°C in July. Cold locks it up for a good stretch each year. The open season starts with the thaw, near enough late April. Expect the water usable from around late April until roughly late November. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. Anyone fishing Grants Lake regularly works to that calendar.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. No launch point is recorded nearby, so this is a bank water unless you carry a boat in. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Check whether a boat is allowed before you tow one. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. Should this one be busy, North Rouge Lake is 2 km off. Signs at Grants Lake carry more weight than any list.
